Students' Britannica: India is the newest member of the Encyclopaedia Britannica family of superior reference works. It is also Britannica's first encyclopaedia to focus entirely on one country or area of the world. Produced by Encyclopaedia Britannica (India) Ltd, it brings to readers a comprehensive source of information on, and awareness of, a country known for its rich history, traditions and culture: a country of flow and continuity from the past to the present, a country that has the most ancient civilisation, and yet is spearheading the twenty-first-century revolution in information technology. It is truly a treasure-house of knowledge on diverse subjects: ranging from India's rich heritage, its religions, languages, arts, culture, customs and beliefs to its advances in many frontline areas of study and research.
The Encyclopaedia affords three pathways to India. Its Volumes 1-5 contain articles from A to Z covering subjects that range from India's geography and history to its arts and sciences, as well as such relevant topics as individual languages, religions and many more. Volume 6 comprises essays which, authored by eminent scholars, cover a wide variety of subjects, in three thematic sections, namely: (a) Art, Culture and Sports, (b) People and Society, and (c) Biodiversity, Science and Technology. Focusing exclusively on 'careers', Volume 7 sets out comprehensive information on eighty important and exciting career opportunities, together with information on the government-recognized institutions offering related coursework.
It is a collaborated work of leading scholars on India and Britannica's editorial staff.
